Description

A gold metal and epoxied device 1 1/4 inch (3.18cm) in width, consisting of a stylized Gold volcanic mountain surmounted in the center by a Maroon cross bearing a gold eagles head, between two palm trees Proper. Attached on either side of the palm trees and the base of the mountain, a black scroll inscribed TO PRESERVE LIFE in Gold.



Symbolism

Maroon is the traditional color of the United States Army Medical Corps. The palm trees and volcano, represent service during the Luzon Campaign associated with the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal of World War II, honoring the history of the 531st Hospital Center. The cross is a symbol of the Medical Corps. The bald eagles head represents the location of the unit, Fort Campbell, and service to the 101st Airborne Division.
